frequently asked questions

You asked:

ECO stands for “Energy Company Obligation”  It is free because of a government energy efficiency scheme, which has been launched to tackle fuel poverty and reduce carbon emissions across Great Britain. However, whilst the installation is free for you – technically it is not free – everybody who is a home owner or a tenant, paying their energy bills for the last 15 years have collectively been paying a small charge monthly, which goes into this fund.

You may remember charges appearing like “Climate Charge”,”Green Levy” or “Environmental Obligation Cost” on bills, which every household and business has contributed towards.

These phrases have since disappeared from most of today’s energy bills but are still being charged in 2024, 2025 etc, instead hidden in areas of the bill such as the “Standing Charge” – and all of these payments from millions of households – including yours – have now been collected and put into this government fund. Energy companies are obligated to access this fund to put measures in place to reduce carbon emissions.

Under the ECO4 & Flex schemes, medium and large energy suppliers & the government have targets they have to meet or they receive substantial fines.

The current goal is “Net Zero by 2050” (whether the energy companies want to do this or not) and our company Energy Grant Finder was set up to act as a free consultancy to guide you through this process.

Insulation Questions:

If your house was built after 1930 then it probably has a cavity wall. This means your property has a space in the wall where insulation can be blown in and help improve the energy efficiency of the building. Properties built pre-1930 most likely have a solid wall and so don’t have this space. This means they have to be insulated externally or internally. This is done by attaching insulation to the external or internal wall and then covering with a plaster (internally) or render (externally) and decorating it back to normal standard.

For an assessor to help you understand the situation with your building you can apply for your free assessment here.

Cavity wall insulation takes 2-3 hours. External or internal insulation takes longer and is dependent on the size of a property. A rough guide would be to allow 3-5 days for internal and 7-10 days for external wall insulation.

Boiler Questions:

As standard the installers install Ideal Logic boilers with a range of warrantees. They can install other makes and models if a customer has a specific one in mind such as Baxi.

After installation, a member of the installer team will call the customer to carry out a job satisfaction survey and discuss their service plans. They recommend setting up a service plan for as long as the warranty.

Yes. The installer will work with the customer to ensure that their boiler is the best one suited for their home and lifestyle and that it is positioned in the most suitable place.
